An Introduction to Walking in Ireland |
|
An active way of life is important for all of us and becomes more important as we grow older. The National Guidelines on Physical Activity for Ireland recommends that adults should be taking part in 30 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity on 5 days a week and children & young people should be active for 60 minutes every day of the week- so get out and put your best foot forward. Walking at a comfortable speed improves heart and lung function. It is also good for general fitness as well as being safe, cheap and convenient. It can be enjoyed alone or with friends.
To really experience the feel of a place you have to touch it. There’s simply no better way to do that than by getting grounded and travelling by foot. Ireland offers endless trails, waymarked ways and looped walks for everyone from the hardcore hiker equipped with map and compass to the family out for a stroll with the dog.
Health benefits of walking – Whether you want to walk to improve your general health, to keep fit, to control your weight, or perhaps to recover from a period of ill-health, walking can help.
